The Carteret County Amateur Radio Society owns and
maintains a mobile
emergency communications trailer. Our trailer is an asset to
public service when hurricanes and other natural disasters take out the
cell phone towers, area repeaters, and the Down East power grid.
Our trailer serves as a vital part of the Down East first
responder network. When called upon, Carteret
County Amateur
Radio Society volunteers provide a way for area fire departments, law
enforcement, search and rescue, FEMA, and other emergency agencies to
communicate when "All Else Fails".
Currently,
our E-Coms trailer is equipped with two generators, two HF radios, a CB
radio, several 2-meter/70-cm radios, a 10 & 12-meter radio, A
WinLink server and backup server, a digital mobile radio, data modems,
and several other pieces of communications electronics that allow us to
interface with local area fire, EMS, law enforcement, and several other
emergency agencies. Carteret
County Amateur Radio Society E-Coms trailer is always ready to assist
ARES, CERT, FEMA, DHS, and other agencies when called
upon to
assist in a disaster.
