The Carteret
County Amateur Radio Society
operates on the W3ENK and the K4GRW repeaters located
on the 300
foot tower beside WalMart in Morehead City. The club
also
owns and maintains a DMR repeater, and the New Bern Amateur Radio Club
maintains a 6-meter repeater on the site. North Carolina's
first FM
talk station, WTKF 107.1 is located at the repeater site
and exclusively offers "The Average Joe Morning Show".
WZED broadcasts
from
the tower on 105.9 on your FM dial. WZED is a low-power
station,
broadcasting 255 watts in the Morehead City area with commercial-free
oldies and soft rock 24/7. The site also hosts the Carteret
County Emergency Services repeater.

County Amateur Radio Society Field Day 2022
CCARS
Field Day 2022 began with breakfast at Cox Family Restaurant in
Morehead City and moved to the Town Park in Newport by 11am.
CCARS members set up the emergency coms trailer as well as
their personal ham radio gear. Interesting set-ups
included
solar powered ham rigs, several Morse operators, HF radio operations,
Winlink operations, 2 meter and 70 cm operations, DMR
operations,
and several field expedient antennas. Events throughout the
day
included making contacts with people in other areas of North Carolina,
in other states, and even other countries. Notable logged
contacts during the day included King Juan Carlos of Spain
(EA0JC)
and a U.S. Navy submarine in the Atlantic.
Lunch was hot
dogs and cheeseburgers, chips, banana pudding, watermelon, and various
other finger foods. We had many visitors and families who
came
out to learn more about amateur radio, and we earned four new club
members during the day.
